39/ Tourism Minister participates in Mediterranean Forum in Athens

Amman, June 4 (Petra) -- Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Lina Annab participated in the eighth Mediterranean Forum, "Circle the Med 2025," held in Athens and delivered a keynote speech during a session titled "Sustainable Tourism and Cultural Heritage – Resilience, Regeneration and Protection."

In a statement issued by the Ministry on Wednesday, Annab joined regional and international leaders to discuss strategies for the Mediterranean region's tourism sector to adapt to climate change while safeguarding its unique cultural and environmental heritage.

In her address, Annab emphasised the "strong" historical and cultural ties linking Jordan to the Mediterranean region. She highlighted Jordan's role as a vital cultural and trade corridor and its active participation in Mediterranean dialogues.

She underlined the importance of inclusive tourism, particularly empowering women and youth. Annab pointed to Jordan's National Green Growth Strategy and Climate Change Adaptation Plan as practical models for integrating sustainability principles into the tourism sector focusing on infrastructure development, heritage preservation and water resource management.

She stressed the need for enhanced regional cooperation, noting that platforms like Circle the Med serve not only as spaces for dialogue but also as practical tools for translating shared goals into collective action.

She emphasised the importance of coordinated frameworks, effective implementation tools and innovative financing mechanisms.

Prominent speakers at the forum included former Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou, former Greek Prime Minister and Forum President George Papandreou, along with ministers from various Mediterranean countries.

The Mayor of Athens, Haris Doukas, addressed the participants, alongside leading figures in climate policy, tourism and cultural affairs.

The Circle the Med Mediterranean Forum is a key regional platform that brings together government officials, experts and stakeholders to promote sustainable and resilient development across the Mediterranean.
