37/ Labor Ministry urges Syrian workers to rectify status before deadline

Amman, June 4 (Petra) - The Ministry of Labor said on Wednesday that Syrian workers can only keep jobs in professions they are entitled to as non-Jordanian laborers.

Any employer who recruits a non-Jordanian of the Syrian nationality, who does not hold a valid work permit, or who changes an employer or has worked in a profession other than the one authorized, is subject to a fine of no less than JD800, said ministry spokesperson Mohammad Zyoud.

He referred to a recent cabinet decision to extend exemptions for Syrian workers from permit fees, fines, and additional amounts incurred before June 30, 2024, provided they rectify their status and obtain new permits before June 30, 2025.

This decision offers Syrian workers the opportunity to rectify their status in accordance with the Labor Law and the regulations and instructions issued pursuant thereto, he said.

He said non-Jordanian workers of Syrian nationality must pay any license fees or fines incurred after July 1, 2025.
