40/ Communication Minister delivers lecture on media role in enhancing political participation

Zarqa, June 3 (Petra) – Minister of Government Communication Mohammad Momani emphasized that political participation is an ongoing practice reflecting the vitality and political maturity of societies.

Speaking at a lecture hosted by Zarqa University’s Faculty of Media, attended by Chairman of Zarqa Education and Investment Company Mahmoud Abu Shairah, Chairman of the University Board of Trustees Sameer Habashneh, and University President Nidal Al Ramahi, Momani said the media serves as a fundamental pillar in promoting political engagement and supporting Jordan’s comprehensive modernization project.

In his lecture on the role of media in enhancing political participation, youth issues, and employment, Momani told faculty and students that media is essential to any democratic endeavor, as it gives citizens a voice and enables monitoring, accountability, and engagement.

He underlined that political participation cannot flourish without a responsible media environment. The government, he noted, is working through the Ministries of Government Communication and Political and Parliamentary Affairs to embed these values particularly among youth through carefully tailored outreach strategies.

Momani, who is also the government spokesperson, reaffirmed that Jordan’s national modernization initiative, launched under royal vision, seeks to integrate all sectors of society into public life. He emphasized the media's role in encouraging youth involvement in party politics and civic engagement.

He also highlighted the government’s commitment to fostering partnerships with universities and encouraging student-led media initiatives that promote constructive dialogue and responsible freedom of expression. He urged the creation of digital content that avoids discouraging or cynical rhetoric and instead fosters values of innovation, entrepreneurship, and productivity.

At the close of the session, Momani thanked Zarqa University for its hospitality and expressed confidence in Jordanian youth’s capacity to drive reform and help shape a more prosperous future.

For his part, Sameer Habashneh stressed the importance of focusing on reinforcing social unity by national media institutions and digital platforms, noting that Jordan remains a key outcome of the Arab Revolt and a symbol of its Arab nationalist mission.
