31/ Labour Minister, Syrian counterpart talk cooperation

Amman, June 3 (Petra) -- Minister of Labor Khaled Bakar and Syrian Minister of Social Affairs and Labour Hind Qabawat discussed enhancing cooperation on the sidelines of the 113th session of the International Labour Conference 2025 in Geneva.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Labour on Tuesday, the meeting covered several key topics, including the development of the inspection system, the electronic "Himaya" platform for labour complaint submissions, social security issues, Jordan's experience in this area and future avenues for collaboration.

The discussions addressed partnership mechanisms with the private sector, particularly regarding the establishment of training academies aimed at equipping youth with skills relevant to the labour market.

Bakar outlined the government's programmes and initiatives designed to encourage private sector employment of youth, such as the National Employment Programme and the Productive Branches Initiative, which promote job creation for Jordanians and support development in desert and rural regions.

Bakar and Qabawat reaffirmed the historical ties between Jordan and Syria, emphasising their strong cooperation across various fields, especially labour affairs.

The meeting was attended by Ambassador Akram Harahsheh, Jordan's Permanent Representative to Geneva; Senator Issa Murad, Chair of the Senate's Labour and Social Development Committee; Senator Sharhabil Madi; and Engineer Fathi Jaghbir, Chair of the Jordan and Amman Chambers of Industry.
