20/ Electric Mobility Project Marks Milestone in Jordan’s Clean Energy Transition, Says Official

Amman, June 3 (Petra) – The "Electric Mobility Adoption in Jordan" project represents a pivotal milestone in advancing electric transportation in the Kingdom, particularly amid the accelerating global shift toward clean energy, according to Bilal Shaqarin, Director of the Climate Change and Green Economy Directorate at the Ministry of Environment.

In remarks to the Jordan News Agency (Petra), Shaqarin said the project constitutes a qualitative leap that underscores Jordan’s commitment to transitioning to a green economy and clean energy.

The Cabinet approved the project agreement during its session last Sunday. The project will be implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization, and the country office of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI).

The initiative aims to develop national standards for electric vehicle (EV) safety and charging infrastructure in line with regional and international best practices. It also seeks to enhance the capacities of relevant institutions by offering specialized training programs for 40 trainees from various government agencies.

As part of establishing a comprehensive regulatory framework to support the transition to electric transportation, the project includes organizing two technical workshops and launching a digital platform to disseminate training materials and updated standards.

Shaqarin stressed that developing the regulatory environment and enhancing institutional capacities alongside investing in infrastructure are essential steps toward creating a robust system that supports the safe and efficient integration of electric vehicles. He noted that the project not only improves safety and charging protocols but also serves as a foundation for investment and consumer awareness, contributing to a lower-emission, greener future.

He further underlined the importance of capacity building and continued training to align Jordan with global best practices. He described the project as more than a technical upgrade rather, a national commitment to sustainability and environmental protection.

Shaqarin expressed confidence that the project would increase consumer trust and stimulate private sector investment in electric transportation, especially regarding the development of charging stations and adherence to safety standards. This, he said, supports Jordan’s efforts to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and cut carbon emissions.

The project approval is part of a broader series of governmental measures aimed at aligning environmental policies with sustainable development goals and reinforcing Jordan’s position as a regional leader in clean energy and sustainable transport.
