10/ Electricity Purchase, Sales Rise in 2025, Exports to Iraq, Jericho Increase

Amman, June 3 (Petra) – Electricity purchased and sold in the Kingdom rose by 5.8 percent in 2025 compared to 2023, according to the annual report issued by the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO).

The report showed that electricity purchases reached 22,723 gigawatt-hours last year, up from 21,473 gigawatt-hours in 2023. The increase was driven by a 22.8 percent rise in output from the Attarat oil shale project and a 7.5 percent increase from renewable energy sources, while electricity from other sources such as King Talal Dam and the Jordan India Fertilizer Company dropped by 3.5 percent.

Electricity sales reached 22,323 gigawatt-hours in 2024, compared to 21,105 gigawatt-hours the previous year. Sales to distribution companies increased by 5.5 percent, industrial subscribers by 7.2 percent, and other subscribers including the airport, media institutions, and others by 2.8 percent.

Imported electricity from Egypt declined by 0.9 percent, from 266.4 to 264.0 megawatt-hours. In contrast, electricity exports rose by 32.6 percent, reaching 265.8 megawatt-hours, up from 200.4 megawatt-hours in 2023. This increase was attributed to supply to the Jerusalem Electricity Company (Jericho), the Trebil border crossing with Iraq, and the General Company for Electricity Transmission in Iraq.
