3/ Jordan Releases 543 Administrative Detainees Ahead of Eid Al-Adha
Amman, June 2 (Petra) -- The Ministry of Interior has ordered the release of 543 administrative detainees ahead of the Eid Al-Adha holiday, in a step aimed at supporting social reintegration and reinforcing the ministry’s humanitarian approach to administrative detention. Interior Minister Mazen Al-Faraya directed administrative governors across the Kingdom to implement the release, following a thorough review of each detainee’s file. The decision comes after authorities determined that the individuals had served sufficient time in custody and no longer posed a threat that warranted continued detention. According to the ministry, the move is intended to give the released individuals a renewed opportunity to resume their lives within their families and communities during the holiday period. It also reflects the government’s commitment to balancing legal and security considerations with social and humanitarian values. The ministry reaffirmed that administrative detention remains a legal tool for curbing the activities of individuals deemed to pose a serious threat to public safety. However, it emphasized that such measures must be exercised within a framework that respects both human rights and the rule of law. //Petra// RZ
