14/ Senate President Meets Georgian, Egyptian Parliament Speakers

Amman, July 31 -- Senate President Faisal Fayez held separate meetings with Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili and Egyptian House Speaker Hanafy El Gebaly on the sidelines of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Conference in Geneva, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations and addressing pressing regional developments.

In his meeting with Papuashvili, Fayez reviewed regional dynamics, particularly the situation in Palestine and the ongoing Israeli aggression against Gaza and the occupied West Bank.

He reaffirmed Jordan’s steadfast position under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, calling for intensified international efforts to halt the assault and to pave the way for a political solution that guarantees the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights. He described the events in Gaza as a humanitarian tragedy and a grave violation of international norms.

Fayez emphasized the importance of bolstering Jordanian-Georgian ties across parliamentary, economic, political, and tourism sectors. He called for activating existing bilateral agreements, boosting trade and investment, and eliminating barriers to cooperation to inject new momentum into relations.

He highlighted the Jordanian Senate’s commitment to expanding parliamentary ties with Georgia and aligning positions on mutual issues in international parliamentary forums. Fayez also noted strong political alignment between Amman and Tbilisi, particularly on resolving regional conflicts through political means, adding that Jordan views Georgia as a partner in advancing peace and stability.

He reiterated Jordan’s rejection of Israeli expansionist policies and attempts at forced displacement in Palestinian territories and urged Georgia and the international community to support King Abdullah II’s peace efforts, based on international legitimacy and the two-state solution.

Fayez also reaffirmed Jordan’s position of not recognizing Abkhazia as an independent state, underscoring Jordan’s respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations.

For his part, Papuashvili praised Jordan’s stabilizing role in the Middle East under King Abdullah II and expressed Georgia’s keenness to strengthen bilateral ties and build on existing cooperation. He noted the shared roles both countries play in maintaining regional stability in the Middle East and the Caucasus.

Papuashvili also stressed the importance of enhancing economic and tourism collaboration and reinforcing parliamentary engagement in the interest of both nations.

In his meeting with El Gebaly, Fayez discussed ways to strengthen Jordanian-Egyptian relations across political, economic, and parliamentary spheres.

The meeting also addressed the escalating situation in Gaza and the West Bank and the urgent need to intensify Arab and international efforts to halt the Israeli offensive and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to the besieged Gaza Strip.
