Amman, July 29 -- Minister of Agriculture Khaled Hneifat took part in the second UN Food Systems Summit +4 (UNFSS+4) follow-up meeting, held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, which brought together heads of state, prime ministers, ministers, representatives of international and regional organizations, UN agencies, the private sector, and civil society.

Hneifat was accompanied by the acting Jordanian ambassador to Ethiopia, Secretary of the Higher Council for Food Security Nada Fraihat, and ARDI Program Director Mahmoud Rabie.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Agriculture on Tuesday, Hneifat attended the summit’s opening session, which featured speeches by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and UN Deputy Secretary-General and Chair of the UN Sustainable Development Group Amina Mohammed. The summit is jointly led by Ethiopia and Italy.

Hneifat also took part in a high-level ministerial roundtable titled "Managing Transitions Towards Inclusive, Resilient, Healthy, and Sustainable Food Systems," organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the UN Environment Program (UNEP).

This year’s summit is held under the theme "Accelerating Food Systems Transformation for a More Sustainable and Inclusive Future." It aims to assess progress since the 2021 summit and set new commitments to enhance governance, financing, partnerships, and innovation.

Hneifat is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with ministers of agriculture, development partners, and leaders of international organizations. He will also deliver a presentation on agricultural investment opportunities and the development of food systems in Jordan.
