18/ Hashemite University, U.S. Embassy Sign Agreement to Activate American Corner

Zarqa, July 29 -- The Hashemite University and the U.S. Embassy in Jordan signed a memorandum of understanding on Tuesday to activate the "American Corner" in the university's library as a public interactive space for cultural, informational, and educational exchange.

According to a statement by the university, the agreement was signed by University President Khaled Hiyari and U.S. Embassy Cultural and Diplomatic Attaché Anthony Miranda.

The memorandum outlines the commitment of both parties to develop the American Corner into a modern knowledge hub open to all. It aims to promote mutual understanding between the Jordanian and American people through cultural programs, digital resources, interactive activities, and awareness sessions about educational opportunities in the United States and cultural exchange programs.

Hiyari said the agreement marks a significant step toward the university’s goal of meaningful engagement with global academic and cultural experiences, contributing to its growing regional and international academic reputation.

He added that the American Corner will serve as a multidimensional knowledge center, enabling students and faculty to access advanced educational resources and engage with global thinking models in line with the university’s vision of modern, integrated education.

Miranda emphasized that the American Corner reflects the ongoing partnership between the two countries, which aims to achieve shared goals, foster U.S. leadership in emerging technologies, and highlight the benefits of cooperation with the United States.

He noted that for over 20 years, the American Corner has served as a dynamic platform for dialogue, learning, and innovation, connecting with university students, faculty, and the broader community.

Following the signing, a ceremony was held at the Hashemite University Library, where Library Director Kifah Omari spoke about the importance of the corner in enhancing student skills and supporting the educational environment.

The event concluded with the opening of a photo exhibition titled "Images of the Jordan-U.S. Partnership," showcasing key milestones of bilateral cooperation in education, culture, and tourism.
