34/ Transport Minister Chairs Maritime Commission Board Meeting to Advance Sector Reform
Amman, July 27 (Petra) Minister of Transport Wissam Tahtamouni, on Sunday, chaired a meeting of the Board of Directors of the Jordan Maritime Commission in Aqaba to review plans aimed at developing the maritime sector, bolstering its strategic role in supporting the national economy, and enhancing service levels and safety standards. In a statement issued by the ministry, Tahtamouni emphasized the vital role of the Maritime Commission in regulating the sector and improving its legal and technical frameworks. She stressed the importance of continued coordination among all stakeholders to update maritime laws and regulations in line with global developments. She noted the ministry’s strong focus on maritime safety and the efficiency of Jordanian ports, calling for the adoption of actionable plans to enhance services and streamline procedures steps that would positively impact trade and maritime transport operations. Tahtamouni said the maritime sector is a cornerstone of Jordan’s ambitions to become a regional logistics hub, reaffirming the ministry’s support for initiatives that attract investment, develop infrastructure, and improve the country’s global competitiveness.
