25/ Women in Political Parties Project Launches at Yarmouk University

Irbid, July 27 (Petra) -- Yarmouk University (YU) launched on Sunday "Women in Political Parties: Toward Effective Leadership" project, organized by the Princess Basma Center for Women's Studies in cooperation with Nahnu Center for Sustainable Development and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung–Jordan Office.

Deputizing for Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs, Secretary-General Ali Khawaldeh noted the vital role of civil society institutions and universities in supporting citizens’ engagement, particularly women and youth in the Kingdom's political process.

Khawaldeh urged Jordan's political parties to empower women and involve them as key decision-makers, in line with national aspirations.

Khawaldeh pointed to Jordan’s political evolution and the "real commitment" to women’s political empowerment through legislative advancements.

To date, he noted women now account for 44% of membership in Jordanian political parties, signaling progress in political inclusion.

In turn, YU President Islam Massad said the project reflects the university's belief in women as "essential partners" in shaping a promising future, lauding the initiative as a "strategic step to build a vibrant political life that promotes inclusive participation."

Massad also underscored the university’s efforts to raise youth awareness on community engagement and political participation, noting its commitment to empower women in all fields.

To achieve this long-term vision, he called for forming joint programs with active societal partners under Jordan’s national identity and Royal vision.

Director General of We Rise Center for Sustainable Development Amer Abudalo stated that the project "goes beyond traditional empowerment," aiming to reshape women's political engagement.

Abudalo described the partnership with the Princess Basma Center as a national alliance dedicated to promote strong female leadership across sectors.

The launch featured a panel discussion titled "Four Years Since the Royal Committee to Modernize the Political System: Where Do Jordanian Women Stand Today?" engaging MP Hala Jarrah, Khawaldeh, Independent Election Commission Commissioner Abeer Dababneh, and Princess Basma Center Director Batoul Muhaisen, moderated by Deputy Director Tareq Naser.

MPs Abdul Nasser Khasawneh, Shahir Shatnawi, and Tareq Bani Hani, in addition to university vice presidents Mousa Rabab’ah and Fadia Mayyas, academic and administrative staff, and members of the local community attended the event.
