Amman, July 11 (Petra) -- The "She Leads: Empowerment, Vision, Advancement" workshop commenced on Thursday as part of the Jordanian-German Energy Partnership, in collaboration with the German Energy Agency and the Idama Association for Energy, Water, and Environment.

Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Amani Azzam said the event underscores the pressing need to spotlight the status of women in the energy sector, examine opportunities to advance their empowerment, and strengthen their participation as influencers and decision-makers shaping the sector’s future.

Azzam noted that Jordan has achieved significant progress in developing its energy sector, citing the Investment Environment Law, which offers incentives for investments that generate employment for women and youth. She further referenced the Economic Modernization Vision, which aspires to double the rate of female employment in the Kingdom by 2033.

She highlighted that the workshop and similar initiatives provide a platform for dialogue and action, aiming to identify challenges and establish practical measures to create a more equitable environment and a more inclusive energy sector accessible to all segments of society.

For his part, Samer Judeh, Vice President and board member of the Idama Association, stated that low female participation remains a persistent issue across multiple sectors. He attributed this to factors including prevailing social norms and inadequate public transportation for women residing outside governorate centers.

Judeh emphasized that expanding women’s participation in the labor market is a shared responsibility requiring collective efforts and investment in expertise and skills development.
