19/ Amman Municipality Launches Pilot Campaign for Waste Sorting at Source

Amman, July 10 (Petra) – The Department of Environmental Studies at the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) has launched a pilot campaign for waste sorting at the source in the Tla’ Al Ali and Tariq areas.

In a statement issued Thursday, the Municipality said the initiative is part of broader efforts to promote environmental awareness and encourage active community engagement in sustainable waste management, in cooperation with strategic partners.

The campaign seeks to position source sorting as a leading national project aimed at reducing mixed waste volumes, enhancing the quality of recyclable materials, fostering positive environmental practices, and strengthening partnerships between GAM and local communities.

The program targets diverse groups within the selected areas, including residents of specific apartment buildings, commercial establishments, malls, charitable organizations, and civil society entities.

The implementation plan, set to continue through the end of this month, has commenced with preliminary engagements involving the campaign’s executive team and volunteers.

Key preparatory steps include assessing logistical requirements, conducting coordination meetings, analyzing the conditions in targeted neighborhoods, and organizing an introductory session to unify efforts among stakeholders.
