27/ JWPF urges reforms to promote Jordanian women's economic engagement
Amman, July 9 (Petra) - Jordanian Women Parliamentarian Forum (JWPF), in cooperation with the Middle East University (MEU), held a dialogue session, themed: " Economic Participation of Jordanian Women." Addressing the event, JWPF Chairwoman, MP Dr. Tamara Nassereddine, said Jordanian women have proven their "entrepreneurial" potential and are now at the "forefront" of Jordan's higher education sector. The MP stated women's economic empowerment is an "urgent" necessity to enhance national production and achieve development justice. Milestones of Jordanian women in all positions require creation of a legislative and executive environment that lifts restrictions that continue to curb their economic participation, she pointed out. The JWPF, she noted, believes in supporting women in entrepreneurship, vocational education, and technology as a direct investment in Jordan's future. As a first step to achieve this vision, she stated the forum is "fully" prepared to adopt any legislation that contributes to women's economic empowerment and ensures their "full" partnership in development. On its previous efforts, she reviewed the forum's efforts to highlight women's issues within field visits and "purposeful" dialogues, underlining the need to draft "actionable" recommendations, mainly a call to launch a national conference for women's economic empowerment, in partnership with relevant authorities. Concluding the dialogue, the attendees agreed on outlining a thorough scientific study on the women's current economic presence, developing executive solutions, expanding women-based vocational and technical education programs to join the labor market, and enhancing engagement in the Kingdom's industrial and technology sectors as "promising" paths. //Petra// AG
