5/ Jordan's Economic Vision Offers Clear Path for Growth, Says Trade Chamber Head
Amman, July 8 (Petra) -- Jordan has a clear, government-transcending economic development path rooted in the Economic Modernization Vision, guided by King Abdullah II, Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC) President Khalil Al-Haj Tawfiq affirmed. Speaking to Arab and Turkish business sectors on Monday evening, Al-Haj Tawfiq described the vision as "ambitious, comprehensive, and implementable," featuring eight implementation engines, 366 initiatives, and 35 main and sub-sectors. According to a JCC statement released Tuesday, Al-Haj Tawfiq highlighted genuine, value-added investment opportunities in Jordan, particularly in major strategic projects to be executed through public-private partnerships. He underscored the potential role of Turkish and Arab companies in achieving the Economic Modernization Vision's objectives. Addressing the 6th Joint Meeting of Arab and Turkish Chambers and the Economic Forum, held at the Izmir Chamber of Commerce in Turkey, Al-Haj Tawfiq urged investors and business leaders from Turkey and Arab nations to visit Jordan. He encouraged them to see firsthand the available potential and opportunities. During the meeting, which saw a large turnout of heads and representatives from Arab and Turkish chambers, as well as Turkish businesspeople, Al-Haj Tawfiq invited investors to explore Jordan's advanced investment environment. He also highlighted the legislative and procedural reforms Jordan has implemented to enhance the country's business and investment climate. Al-Haj Tawfiq explained that Jordan is making swift progress in improving its business environment through the new Investment Environment Law. This law includes incentives, exemptions, and simplified procedures for new and existing investors, alongside legislative, customs, and tax reforms. Additionally, he noted that various trade agreements position Jordan among the most attractive countries for investment. He further discussed Turkish investments in Jordan, which amount to approximately $400 million, primarily concentrated in transportation, services, information technology, food industries, and infrastructure. Al-Haj Tawfiq advocated for a partnership between Jordan and Turkey on reconstruction projects in Syria. Exports from Jordan to Turkey totaled $106 million last year, against $814 million in imports, he said, underscoring the necessity of boosting Jordanian exports and expanding their share in the Turkish market. Al-Haj Tawfiq reiterated his call for the Turkish government to reopen the Bab al-Hawa crossing, which connects Syria with Turkey, emphasizing its strategic priority for all parties' interests. He clarified that the crossing is not only crucial for trade between Jordan and Syria but also serves as a vital lifeline for Turkish exports to Jordan and other Arab markets, especially Gulf countries, by accelerating goods flow, reducing transport costs, and cutting transit times. //Petra// AA
