33/ Amman hosts 20th Arab Capitals Youth Meeting
Amman, July 8 (Petra) – The 20th Arab Capitals Youth Meeting kicked off in Amman on Tuesday, bringing together 84 young men and women from 15 Arab countries under the theme, "Amman: Arab Youth Capital 2025." Organized by the Ministry of Youth in collaboration with the Arab League, the multi-day gathering aims to foster dialogue and exchange experiences on youth economic empowerment in light of the region’s evolving challenges. Acting Director of Amman Youth Directorate, Sana'a Al-Wudyan, emphasized the importance of the event in her opening remarks, saying it unites an elite group of Arab youth. She noted that economic empowerment is a cornerstone of meaningful youth contribution to community development. Participants began the day with a visit to the Martyrs' Memorial, where they received an in-depth briefing on the sacrifices and heroism of the Jordan Armed Forces. They also toured the museum, which chronicles modern Jordanian history and commemorates those who gave their lives for the nation. The attendees later took part in a panel discussion exploring Arab countries’ experiences in youth economic empowerment. Delegations presented discussion papers highlighting national strategies and initiatives. The Qatari delegation outlined government efforts to engage youth in national and international activities aimed at strengthening their capacities and promoting economic self-reliance. Syria’s delegation showcased new youth-focused programs and policies being implemented as part of the country’s post-conflict recovery, emphasizing the inclusion of young people in development and decision-making processes. Yemen’s representatives discussed the formidable challenges faced by Yemeni youth amid the country’s ongoing security crisis. They also proposed several youth-led initiatives aimed at alleviating the impact of instability. The Mauritanian delegation presented its national vision for tackling unemployment and enhancing youth participation in economic development projects designed to support financial independence. Meanwhile, Oman’s delegation highlighted both the challenges and opportunities facing Omani youth, stressing the importance of transforming obstacles into pathways for empowerment and self-actualization. The first day concluded with a visit to the Royal Automobile Club, where participants toured the facilities and learned about the club’s history and its role in supporting youth activities and sports in Jordan. //Petra// AF
