New York, July 7 (Petra) – U.S. stock markets declined sharply on Monday, while crude oil prices edged higher.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 422 points, closing at 44,406. The tech-heavy Nasdaq index lost 188 points, ending the day at 20,412. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 index fell by 49 points to settle at 6,230.

In contrast, U.S. crude oil benchmark West Texas Intermediate (WTI) rose by $1 to reach $68.01 per barrel.
