34/ Jordan’s agricultural sustainability plan making strides toward food security - Minister
Amman, July 7 (Petra) – Minister of Agriculture Khaled Hneifat on Monday affirmed that Jordan’s National Plan for Agricultural Sustainability is progressing steadily toward strengthening food security and boosting growth in the sector. He noted that recent indicators reflect tangible improvements in agricultural performance, particularly in production, exports, and employment. Speaking during a panel discussion organized by the Greater Amman Municipality as part of the "Amman Cultural Salon" series, Hneifat outlined the key pillars of the national plan. The discussion, moderated by journalist Mohammad Al-Zyoud, a member of the Jordan Press Association Council, was attended by a group of journalists, experts, and stakeholders in agriculture and the environment. Hneifat said the plan focuses on land reclamation, support for smallholder farmers, and the adoption of modern irrigation and production technologies. He pointed out that the agricultural sector recorded 8.1% growth in the first quarter of 2025 the highest among all economic sectors. The session also addressed the challenges facing food security, particularly in light of climate change and scarce resources. Participants emphasized the need for cooperation between the public and private sectors to reinforce Jordan’s national food security system. The discussion also covered the future of smart agriculture, the media's role in supporting agricultural policies, and the importance of transparency and good governance in the sector. //Petra// AF
