33/ AND thwarts drug smuggling attempt at Jaber Crossing, seizing 150,000 pills

Amman, July 7 (Petra) – Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) personnel, in cooperation with Jordan Customs and other security agencies at the Jaber Border Crossing, have thwarted an attempt to smuggle 150,000 narcotic pills into the Kingdom, arresting the primary suspect behind the operation.

According to a spokesperson for the Public Security Directorate (PSD), the operation began after intelligence was received regarding an individual in Jordan coordinating with accomplices in a neighboring country to smuggle a large quantity of pills using a freight vehicle.

A special investigative team from AND was formed to track the suspect, successfully uncovering the full details of the smuggling operation, including the expected arrival time of the truck. Upon the truck’s entry into Jordanian territory, authorities intercepted and searched the vehicle, uncovering 150,000 pills hidden in secret compartments. Simultaneously, the lead suspect was apprehended during a raid.

In a separate incident in Zarqa Governorate, AND officers arrested a major hashish dealer believed to be one of the primary distributors in central Jordan. After confirming his possession of large quantities of the drug, security forces raided his location and seized 29 slabs of hashish.

The PSD spokesperson added that a coordinated security campaign was also carried out in south Amman, targeting drug dealers, suspects, and wanted individuals. Five suspects were arrested, and various quantities of narcotics were seized during the operation.
