  32/ Lower House’s committee explores bolstering joint Arab media cooperation in Cairo visit

Amman, July 7 (Petra) – Head of the Lower House’s National Guidance and Media Committee, MP Firas Qablan, underscored the importance of Arab cooperation in supporting the growth and prosperity of nations, stressing the need to keep pace with technological developments particularly in the field of modern media and its various platforms.

Qablan highlighted the value of exchanging Arab media expertise to enrich regional media practices, strengthen resilience to internal and external challenges, and ensure the effective communication of national positions and priorities.

His remarks came during a meeting in Cairo on Monday with Major General Sameh Qetta, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Satellite Company (Nilesat), attended by Ibrahim Abu Zekri, President of the Union of Arab Producers. The discussions focused on areas of mutual interest aimed at advancing Arab media and serving common national causes.

The Jordanian parliamentary delegation included MPs Mohammad Sbailah, Ahmad Al-Rekp, Ayman Abu Rub, Fathi Al-Bawwat, and Deputy President of the Jordan Press Association (JPA) Awni Al-Daoud. The delegation emphasized the need to benefit from Egypt’s technical and institutional expertise in the media sector and called for unified efforts to address the fast-paced evolution of modern media.

Members of the delegation commended the strong and deeply rooted ties between Jordan and Egypt and called for greater cooperation in the media sector to serve the shared interests of both nations.

The talks also explored opportunities for collaboration in satellite broadcasting, with Major General Qetta expressing Nilesat’s readiness to share its expertise and provide technical support to Jordanian media professionals in both satellite and terrestrial broadcasting.

The Jordanian delegation toured Nilesat’s headquarters in 6th of October City and was briefed on the company’s advanced media technologies and how they can be harnessed to support the development of Arab media.

In a separate meeting, MP Qablan and JPA’s Al-Daoud held talks with Khaled Miri, Secretary-General of the Federation of Arab Journalists, and the Federation’s Financial Secretary, Hatem Zakaria. Discussions centered on the need to establish a supportive legislative environment conducive to developing a unified Arab media discourse capable of addressing regional and international challenges.

Miri and Zakaria praised the Jordan Press Association for its role in supporting journalists and commended the efforts of the National Guidance and Media Committee, describing it as a model for promoting the media sector.

Both sides also stressed the importance of strengthening the partnership between the committee and the JPA, and expressed appreciation for MP Qablan’s initiative to include a representative of the association in the parliamentary delegation an indication of the association’s valued standing within Jordan’s legislative body.
