26/ Contract signed to launch AI-driven agriculture project

Amman, July 7 (Petra) The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Growtech signed a contract to implement the project titled "Using AI and Satellite Imagery to Predict Soil Fertility and Rationalise Water Consumption."

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship on Monday, the project aims to enhance agricultural productivity and promote the efficient use of land and water resources.

It plans to integrate satellite imagery with precise field data and apply AI techniques to analyse soil characteristics and determine optimal irrigation times, according to the statement.

The approach is expected to improve the quality of agricultural output, reduce water waste and support the sustainable utilisation of arable land.

The Ministry of Agriculture highlighted that the initiative will contribute to increasing productivity and better resource management, particularly in light of ongoing water challenges.

The Ministry explained that incorporating AI into agriculture offers precise tools that enable farmers to achieve better results with fewer resources, according to the statement.

JICA Chief Representative Morihata Shingo underscored the project's importance as a milestone in applying AI to agricultural development, noting that it paves the way for adopting smart solutions that enhance food security and promote the conservation of natural resources.
