25/ JFDA Head urges support of pharmaceutical industry as economic mainstay
Amman, July 7 (Petra) – Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) Director Nizar Mhaidat said on Monday that supporting the national pharmaceutical industry is a strategic necessity as the sector is a key economic mainstay that directly contributes to job creation and places Jordan as a regional pharmaceutical hub. In opening remarks during a workshop on accreditation of manufacturing sites, organized by the Jordanian Association of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers in cooperation with the JFDA, Mhaidat highlighted the importance of the Kingdom's accession to the Pharmaceutical Inspection Co-operation Scheme, part of efforts to boost Jordan's position as a leading destination in the pharmaceutical industry and enable the vital sector to achieve economic modernization vision goals. Joining the Inspection Co-operation Scheme will bring a qualitative shift in the development of pharmaceutical control and inspection systems that will enhance the flow of national pharmaceutical exports to global markets, he said. Mhaidat stressed the need to localize pharmaceutical production, particularly for vital drug groups, including those related to drug safety, which has a direct impact on competitiveness in foreign markets, increase export opportunities and raise the production capacity of local factories. Secretary-General of the Jordanian Association of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Hanan Soboul said recent amendments to accreditation of manufacturing sites criteria align with the economic modernization vision that places pharmaceuticals as a high-value priority sector. //Petra//SS
