19/ Lower House, Arab Parliament Sign MoU to Boost Joint Arab Parliamentary Action

Amman, July 7 (Petra) Lower House Speaker Ahmad Safadi met on Monday with Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed Yamahi and an accompanying delegation, stressing the importance of coordination to serve Arab causes, foremost among them is the Palestinian issue, and stepping up efforts to end the war on the Gaza Strip and deliver urgent aid to its people.

Safadi reaffirmed Jordan’s unwavering stance, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, in defending the justice of the Palestinian cause, rejecting forced displacement and escalation in the West Bank, and continuing to provide relief to Gaza through Jordanian field hospitals and the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization.

Jordan, he said, supports all efforts to achieve Arab solidarity and commended the Arab Parliament’s role in addressing challenges and threats facing the region. He reiterated that regional security and stability hinged on a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, guaranteeing the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Safadi also underlined the importance of joint Arab parliamentary coordination in light of current regional challenges that require common ground and healing divisions. He stressed Jordan’s belief in dialogue as the path to resolving crises, as well as its commitment to working for security and stability in the region.

For his part, Yamahi praised Jordan’s efforts, led by King Abdullah II, in defending the Palestinian cause and strengthening various aspects of Arab cooperation.

He highlighted the Arab Parliament’s initiatives in defending Arab issues, including a recent visit to Rafah to support Gaza and ongoing joint Arab action to pressure the international community to stop the aggression on Gaza.

Following the meeting, Safadi and Yamahi signed a memorandum of understanding between the Lower House and the Arab Parliament to enhance parliamentary cooperation and expand areas of joint work on legislative matters of mutual interest.
