Amman, July 6 (Petra) -- The Eastern Military Zone successfully foiled an attempt to smuggle narcotics into the country early Sunday using remote-controlled balloons, according to a statement from the General Command of the Jordan Armed Forces – Arab Army.

A military source said that border guard units operating in the eastern region detected a number of balloons within Jordanian airspace. The operation, carried out in coordination with military security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department, led to the interception and downing of the balloons inside Jordanian territory.

Upon inspection, the balloons were found to be fitted with remote navigation devices and loaded with narcotic substances. The confiscated materials were transferred to the relevant authorities for further investigation.

The source emphasized that the Jordan Armed Forces remain fully prepared to confront all forms of infiltration and smuggling. Border security units, the source noted, are maintaining high alert to prevent any threat to national security and to protect the safety of Jordanian citizens.
