7/ ASEZA Approves King Hussein Airport Expansion, Boosts Investment in Aqaba
Aqaba, January 23 (Petra) -- The Board of Commissioners of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) has approved a master plan for the expansion and development of King Hussein International Airport, positioning it as an investment opportunity for development and operation under the Aqaba Development Corporation. The decision aligns with the ASEZA's 2040 Master Urban Plan, which aims to enhance the airport's regional and global competitiveness and adopt international best practices in airport management and operations. In a session held Wednesday evening, the Board also endorsed investment terms for the establishment of a hotel on a prime land parcel in the eighth residential area. This project seeks to bolster the tourism sector by increasing hotel capacity in Aqaba and creating new employment opportunities in tourism, hospitality, and related industries. Additionally, the Board approved land allocations to create parking facilities for rental buses in Aqaba, facilitating the operations of transport rental companies while meeting licensing and logistical requirements to ensure high-quality service provision. The Commissioners facilitated two investment projects in the industrial and educational sectors. The approvals, made under the ASEZA's vision of encouraging investment, aim to expedite licensing procedures for economic activities within the zone. In sustainable development initiatives, the Board reviewed a comprehensive land use plan for the al-Quweira District and directed updates to align with urban planning efforts for the Aqaba Special Economic Zone. This step supports smart and sustainable growth, enhances living standards, and adheres to sustainable development goals and the new urban agenda. Under the leadership and community development strategies, the Board endorsed a public awareness program to combat drug abuse. This initiative involves producing educational videos highlighting the dangers of drugs and preventive measures to support national efforts to protect society. The session concluded with approvals for several administrative and organizational measures related to the ASEZA’s ongoing efforts to enhance development and streamline operations. //Petra// AJ
