Amman, Jan. 23 (Petra) - Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT) on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Jordan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC), aimed to launch joint action by contributing to development and support of Jordanian youth to obtain "high-quality" education to meet labor market's requirements.

Implemented under an academic research cooperation system, the memo focuses on conducting research and development activities in the fields of energy engineering and planning, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and machine learning.

According to a PSUT statement, the memo was signed by JAEC's Chairman, Dr. Khaled Touqan, and the university's president, Dr. Wijdan Abu Haija.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Dr. Touqan said the memo constitutes a "strategic" step to enhance cooperation among Jordan's academic and national institutions.

This partnership, he noted, will open "fresh" horizons for developing scientific research and innovation in "vital" fields, mainly energy engineering and cybersecurity, which contribute to empowering Jordanian youth and supporting "sustainable" development in the Kingdom.

Dr. Touqan also pointed to the JAEC's "pivotal" role and its contribution to national economic and social development by using nuclear energy in generating electricity or desalinating water, medicine, materials sciences and other peaceful purposes, referring to its interest in the research aspect, academic training and areas of nuclear and radiation investment.

Meanwhile, Dr. Abu Haija expressed "pride" in this collaboration, which aligns with the university's vision and goals, as it has "been" keen since its establishment to extend cooperation bridges with national and international institutions to be a platform for science and knowledge.

Dr. Abu Haija noted the MoU's importance in the academic and research fields, stating JAEC has worked since its first launch to transfer and settle nuclear energy and harness it for peaceful purposes to exploit available domestic resources.

The memo reflects the two sides' commitment to provide "qualitative" educational and research opportunities, which contributes to building Jordan's capabilities to achieve developmental and technological goals, the statement pointed out.
