14/ Plan underway to increase Risha gas field's production, says energy minister

Amman, Jan. 23 (Petra) -Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Kharabsheh, said the sector aims to secure energy in its various forms to achieve comprehensive development and exchange electricity with neighboring countries.

Kharabsheh added that efforts eye to attract "global" capital to invest in this industry, especially in generating electricity, producing petroleum derivatives, transporting oil and gas, and exploiting local energy sources.

Kharabsheh's remarks came in a session held by the Senate's Energy and Mineral Resources Committee, headed by Farouk Hayari, to discuss Jordan's energy situation.

Kharabsheh indicated that the ministry has a "clear and specific" program with a time frame to address losses of the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO), expecting a "positive" change in the company's situation in the coming few years.

On this context, Kharabsheh stressed continuation of "intense" efforts with NEPCO to develop Risha gas field and increase its production, and expand the uses of natural gas in Jordan's various sectors.

The ministry, he noted, will continue to increase contribution of renewable energy to the Kingdom's total energy mix, adding that Jordan will have a role in the green hydrogen industry and attract investments in this field.
