48/ European Commission regrets Trump's WHO withdrawal intention

Amman, Jan. 21 (Petra) – The European Commission expressed its concern over the U.S. administration's intention under President Donald Trump to withdraw from the World Health Organization (WHO).

During a daily press briefing in Brussels on Tuesday, the Commission's spokesperson for health affairs, Eva Hrn???ov?, stated, "We trust that the administration will reconsider this decision before the formal withdrawal." She also noted that the European Union will assess the financial situation with its partners and urge all WHO members to strengthen their commitments to ensure predictable and flexible funding.

Earlier today, the WHO expressed regret over the U.S. decision, emphasizing in a statement that the organization "plays a critical role in protecting the health and safety of the world’s populations, including Americans, by addressing the root causes of diseases, building stronger health systems, and detecting, preventing, and responding to health emergencies, including disease outbreaks in dangerous areas where others cannot operate."
