31/ Lebanese president says committed to full Israeli withdrawal from occupied southern territories

Beirut, January 21 (Petra) -- Lebanese President Michel Aoun said on Tuesday that Lebanon is committed to ensuring Israel's full withdrawal from the remaining occupied territories in the south as per the agreement reached on November 27.

In a statement issued by the Lebanese presidency, Aoun said Israel's failure to honour its pledge for withdrawal contradicts the commitments made during the negotiations that led to the agreement.

He added that the ongoing tensions in the border villages prevent the return of displaced people and hinder efforts to rebuild areas destroyed by Israeli aggression.

The statement comes as Israeli forces renewed their incursion into several southern Lebanese towns, coinciding with the burning and destruction of homes and facilities.

A Lebanese security source informed Petra's correspondent in Beirut that an Israeli force advanced from Maroun al-Ras towards the outskirts of Bint Jbeil. Another force moved from the town of Taybeh towards Adshit al-Qusayr.

The Israeli army is reportedly burning vehicles, equipment and facilities belonging to the Ward Company, which is associated with the Litani Project, following its renewed incursion into the Tal Nahas area.

An armoured unit from the Lebanese army entered the outskirts of Kfar Hamam in the Arqoub region, coordinating with the UN peacekeeping mission forces to address the situation.
