  18/ Jordan participates in Dubai climate change conference

Dubai, Jan. 21 (Petra) -Director of Hamdi Mango Center for Scientific Research (HMCSR), Dr. Reda Khawaldeh, took part in the activities of the "International Conference on Climate Change and Human Health Impacts, which began its activities the Emirate of Dubai Monday.

In his speech, Khalayleh stressed the importance of "concerted" regional and international efforts to confront the "worsening" climate crises, which have become a threat to the health of individuals and stability of ecosystems.

Climate change, he noted, leads to an "increase" in natural disasters, primarily floods and droughts, which "directly" affects health by spreading diseases and pandemics and triggering shortage of vital resources such as water and food.

Khalayleh, who is also Executive Secretary of the Association of Agricultural Research Institutions in the Near East and North Africa (AARINENA), praised the "effective" role played by international organizations and governments, mainly the Japanese government and the United Nations Population Fund.

Khalayleh referrd to these entities' efforts in supporting developing countries to confront the climate repercussions by providing technical and financial assistance and developing sustainable strategies.

Khalayleh added that the Parliamentary Forum for Population and Development represents an "important" platform to enhance dialogue among parliamentarians and experts to discuss environmental and health policies and develop legislation that supports sustainable development and protects the "most vulnerable" groups from the climate change effects.

The conference featured multiple discussions and papers on promoting clean energy, improving health infrastructure, and adapting to new environmental challenges.

In their recommendations, the participants called on enhancing international cooperation and empowering local communities to counter climate challenges and achieve sustainable development.
