16/ Aqaba Governorate Council Allocates JD 75,000 for Cancer Center Waiting Hall

Aqaba, January 21 (Petra) -- The Aqaba Governorate Council has signed a cooperation agreement with the King Hussein Cancer Foundation to allocate JD 75,000 from its 2025 budget for constructing a waiting hall at the King Abdullah II Cancer Center in Aqaba.

Governor Khaled Hajjaj, who oversaw the agreement’s signing, emphasized the significance of the center, which is currently under construction and expected to open in the first quarter of this year. He highlighted that the facility would serve cancer patients from the southern governorates, alleviating financial and logistical burdens caused by frequent travel to the capital, Amman. He also commended the governorate council’s role in supporting the center to benefit citizens locally.

Harb Awidat, head of the governorate council, underlined that the council’s support aligns with its annual budget plan to enhance healthcare services in Aqaba. He noted the collaboration between institutions in the governorate as a model for advancing partnerships that other regions across the Kingdom could emulate.

Nisreen Qatamesh, Director General of the King Hussein Cancer Foundation, highlighted that the center will significantly enhance health services for cancer patients in the southern region, easing their treatment journeys. She announced that the center's first phase, slated for opening in the first quarter of this year, will include outpatient clinics and diagnostic testing facilities accessible to all patients requiring such specialized services.

Qatamesh added that the center’s development will involve partnerships with the Ministry of Health and the Royal Medical Services. Thousands of patients are expected to benefit from the services provided, while the second phase aims to establish the center as a fully integrated hospital to cater to a broader segment of the community.
