31/ 2 workshops on confronting hate speech organized in Northern Jordan Valley, Al Koura
Governorates, Jan. 20 (Petra) – The Northern Jordan Valley Directorate of Education, in collaboration with the Public Security Directorate's (PSD) Community Peace Center, organized an awareness workshop on Monday on confronting hate speech, rejecting violence and extremism, and the impact of social media utilization. Lubna Shawish, Director of Educational Affairs at the Directorate, emphasized the importance of such workshops in empowering educational staff to perform their role in building a safe and cohesive learning environment. She highlighted the need to enhance cooperation between educational and security institutions to support the educational process, promote societal peace, and protect students from extremism and hate speech. The workshop aims to raise awareness among educational counselors about confronting hate and violence phenomena, reinforcing values of tolerance and respect within and outside the school community, and equipping participants with the knowledge and skills needed to address these issues in an educational and professional manner. During the workshop, Captain Ibrahim Zreikat from the Community Peace Center reviewed the dangers of online extremism and ways to promote a culture of dialogue, in addition to the impact of social media and electronic games on students and how to protect them from the risks associated with their use. The Directorate of Education for the Al-Koura District, in collaboration with the Public Security Directorate and the Community Peace Center, also organized an awareness workshop on confronting hate speech, rejecting violence, and extremism at the Al-Samt Basic School for Boys. The goal of the workshop was to raise awareness among educational counselors about their pivotal role in addressing hate and violence phenomena, promoting values of tolerance and mutual respect within and outside the school community, and equipping participants with the knowledge and skills needed to tackle these issues in an educational and professional manner. //Petra// AF
