3/ Vehicle Clearances in Jordan's Zarqa Free Zone Increase by 7% in 2024
Amman, Jan. 20 (Petra) -- Vehicle clearances at the Zarqa Free Zone have risen by 7% by the end of 2024, reaching 78,000 vehicles, compared to 74,000 in the previous year, according to Jihad Abu Nasser, the representative of the vehicle sector at the Jordan Free Zones Investors Commission (JFZIC) Abu Nasser noted that the clearance of electric vehicles saw a significant surge, increasing by 33% during the year, with approximately 51,000 electric vehicles cleared in 2024, compared to 38,000 in 2023. He attributed this growth to the government's decision to require a mandatory bank guarantee for new electric vehicles, covering vehicles from the model year of clearance or the preceding or following year. In contrast, clearances for gasoline vehicles decreased by 32%, with about 7,700 gasoline vehicles cleared in 2024, down from 11,000 in 2023. Diesel vehicle clearances also fell by 5%, totaling 7,700 vehicles by the end of 2024, compared to 8,000 vehicles in 2023. Hybrid vehicle clearances experienced a decline of 24%, with 12,000 vehicles cleared by the end of 2024, compared to 16,000 in the previous year. Re-exportation also saw an increase of 11%, reaching 133,000 vehicles by the end of 2024, compared to 121,000 vehicles in 2023. Abu Nasser emphasized that the shifts in clearance trends reflect the direct impact of government policies and tax decisions on the market dynamics in the Zarqa Free Zone. //Petra// RZ
