47/ Labor minister meets representatives from agricultural, commercial sectors in Mafraq

Mafraq, Jan. 19 (Petra) – Minister of Labor Khaled Bakkar met on Sunday with representatives from the agricultural sector, both plant and animal, and the commercial sector in Mafraq Governorate. During the meeting, he directed the formation of a committee to identify agricultural holdings in the area to preserve the agricultural season.

Bakkar emphasized that the purpose of the joint inspection campaigns, conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior and the Public Security Directorate (PSD), is to regulate the labor market and prevent the escalation of issues. These efforts aim to identify available job opportunities for Jordanians and determine the actual labor needs of each sector, as well as to prevent the employment of workers in violation of the law.

He further emphasized that the campaigns are intended to enforce the law and are not for show. They are documented through audio-visual recordings to ensure procedural integrity, with all inspections being connected to control rooms at the Ministry of Labor and the PSD.

Bakkar stressed that the ministry is committed to enforcing the law and does not tolerate violations. At the same time, the ministry does not accept the disruption of business operations and is open to coordinating with any sector to address labor shortages. He noted that the joint inspection campaign between the Ministry of Labor, Ministry of Interior, and the PSD was preceded by 60 days of regulatory procedures that allowed employers to rectify the status of their non-Jordanian workers and facilitated their transfer between sectors.

He also mentioned that a directive had been issued allowing non-Jordanian workers with valid work permits to transfer between employers, provided the first employer approves.

The minister listened to the representatives' demands regarding their labor needs and their observations about the Ministry of Labor's efforts to enhance labor market organization, as well as the challenges faced by the sectors in Mafraq Governorate (northeast Jordan).
