46/ Stakeholders discuss enhancing women's participation in politics in Balqa
Salt, Jan. 19 (Petra) – President of the Balqa Governorate Council, Ibrahim Awamleh, met with a delegation from the Jordanian National Forum for Women in Balqa to discuss ways to enhance women's participation in political life. During the meeting, Awamleh highlighted key projects of the Council aimed at improving infrastructure and developing the health and education sectors to address the needs of the local community. He emphasized the importance of women's participation in political life, highlighting that their role is essential in the decision-making process. He pointed out that involving women in governorate councils contributes to making more balanced and inclusive decisions that meet the needs of all social groups. Awamleh called for providing political training and rehabilitation programs that would empower women and enhance their capabilities. The meeting also addressed the challenges women face in running for office, including social, financial, and cultural barriers, with a focus on the importance of providing a supportive environment that enables women to participate in elections and contribute effectively. For her part, Alvera Jreisat, the spokesperson of the forum in Balqa, praised the Council's achievements and its role in improving the developmental landscape in the governorate (located northwest of Amman). She emphasized the importance of cooperation between the Council and the local community to enhance women's role in politics and support their participation.
