42/ Municipalities create jobs through development projects, says Labor Minister

Irbid, Jan. 19 (Petra) – Minister of Labor Khaled Bakkar emphasized the significant role municipalities play in enhancing services for citizens and creating job opportunities through developmental projects.

During his visit on Sunday to the Al Wasatyeh Municipality’s garment factory, accompanied by the district governor Zaid Habahbeh, Al Wasatyeh Mayor Emad Azzam, and Irbid Provincial Council member Adi Khrashqeh, Bakkar stressed the importance of establishing genuine partnerships with the private sector to launch local development projects. These projects, he noted, contribute to job creation for both genders and economic empowerment.

He highlighted that such partnerships facilitate the provision of comfortable and safe local work environments across municipal areas while generating sustainable financial revenues for municipalities.

Bakkar praised Al Wasatyeh Municipality’s progress in improving services for citizens, which has been achieved through its self-resourced efforts. This success has strengthened the municipality’s budget, enabling it to implement various service and development projects that boost the local economy and enhance municipal services. These efforts positively impact the area's economic and social aspects.

Mayor Azzam noted that the government and Ministry of Labor's support for investors in areas outside city centers plays a pivotal role in establishing development projects that provide job opportunities for local residents.

He added that the municipality, located in west Irbid (northern Jordan), offers all necessary facilities to attract investors, whether through partnerships with the municipality or independent projects within its jurisdiction. These efforts align with His Majesty King Abdullah's vision of developmental work complementing municipal services to provide citizens with the best possible services.

Al Wasatyeh Municipality factory was established as a royal initiative and employs around 150 workers.
