18/ Jordan, Philippines Discuss Economic Ties
Amman, Jan. 19 (Petra) - The Jordanian Businessmen Association met with Philippine Ambassador Wilfredo Santos to explore ways of enhancing economic, investment, and trade relations between the two countries. Abdul Rahim Baqaei, member of the association’s board of directors, stressed the need to cement Jordanian-Philippine trade and investment relations, noting the Kingdom’s numerous free trade agreements with Arab and world countries. Baqaei also stressed the potential for Philippine investments in Jordan’s promising sectors, given that Filipino workers are a significant portion of the expatriate workforce in the Kingdom. He proposed the exchange of trade delegations and showcasing investment opportunities in both countries to boost ties between Jordanian and Filipino entrepreneurs. He further outlined the privileges to foreign investors in Jordan, particularly in the food industry sector, which offers many advantages. Wilfredo pledged the embassy will help boost relations and increase trade and investment exchanges. He said a Philippine delegation will visit Jordan in early February to explore investment opportunities, focusing on the food, trade, industry, and energy sectors. The delegation, he added, seeks to better understand the Jordanian market and consider establishing Philippine food factories. The trade volume between the two countries was at $13.6 million In 2023, including $8.1 million worth of Jordanian exports and Philippine imports of $5.5 million. //Petra// AO
