Irbid, Jan.19 (Petra) - Speaker of the Lower House of Representatives, Ahmad Safadi, Minister of Local Administration, Walid Masri, and Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs, Abdul-Moneim Odat, announced the launch of a comprehensive national dialogue to draft the Local Administration Bill. For this purpose, the team said a meeting will be held with the heads of Jordan's municipalities and "decentralized" provincial councils to benefit from their feedback during the coming period. The officials noted the effort comes in preparation for approving a new law under for holding the upcoming municipal and provincial council elections. The announcement came during a dialogue session on the new Local Administration Bill, themed: "Towards Development of Comprehensive Local Development and Administration," under the auspecies of Safadi Saturday evening at the invitation of Bani Obeid Municipality in northern Irbid governorate. Speaking at the dialogue, Safadi noted establishment of provincial councils in 2015 was an "important" step to enhance local activities and serve citizens. The idea, he said, came to support the House by reducing the service burden on the Kingdom's lawmakers to focus on their basic tasks in legislation and oversight. The provincial councils are a "real" partner in supporting the lawmakers' work, he stated, stressing the importance of joint work to prepare a draft law with the engagement of all concerned stakeholders, he pointed out. In this regard, he indicated that the upcoming law will give a "greater" role to provincial and municipal councils to participate in preparing the draft law and take the comments "seriously." The House was "keen" to capture the Royal directives and seeks directly to apply this vision according to constitutional mechanisms, he said. Safadi noted this bid is carried out, in coordination with the government, to endorse legislations that deal "positively" with Jordan's goals in stimulating the economy and investment and enhancing local development, aimed to create job opportunities and reduce unemployment. //Petra// AG More...
