10/ Industrial Sector Crucial for Economic Growth, Forum Highlights Best Practices

Amman, January 19 (Petra) – Trade unionists emphasized the essential role of national industrial companies in bolstering the Jordanian economy. These companies enhance local production, improve the trade balance, and create job opportunities, contributing significantly to economic development and ensuring a decent standard of living for the community.

The remarks came during the inaugural Jordanian International Forum for Exchanging Best Industrial Practices, organized by the Chemical Engineering Division of the Engineers Association. The two-day forum, which began Sunday, aims to highlight success stories in various industries to foster improved industrial performance.

Mohammad Dhneibat, Chairman of the Phosphate Mines Company, inaugurated the forum by stressing the importance of integrity, ethics, and honesty in achieving institutional success and sustainability. He explained that applying "best practices" involves achieving top-quality outcomes at minimal costs while adhering to regulations and ensuring equitable treatment within organizations. Accountability, he noted, remains central to institutional success, rewarding diligence and addressing misconduct.

The President of the Engineers Syndicate, Ahmed Zoubi, said the forum seeks to enhance cooperation between local industrial companies and support knowledge and expertise exchange to advance industrial performance. He emphasized that the Engineers Association is committed to organizing initiatives that strengthen local industrial institutions and foster mutual benefits among stakeholders.

He elaborated that the forum features discussions on strategic planning for quality improvement, resource management, and capacity building. It also covers advancements in automation, artificial intelligence, and information management systems to enhance operational efficiency.

National companies, Zoubi noted, play a vital role in job creation, boosting local production, and improving the trade balance while supporting sectors such as industry, agriculture, and services.

The head of the Chemical Engineering Division, Muhammad Mahamid, said the forum reflects the efforts of the division’s Industrial Advisory Committee to align educational outcomes with the industrial sector's needs. He highlighted its aim to promote sustainability, resource conservation, energy management, and enhanced partnerships between public and private sectors to support Jordan's self-sufficiency.

Chairman of the Advisory Committee and forum preparatory committee, Sami Amarneh, noted that the event includes presentations from major companies such as Phosphate, Potash, Bromine Jordan, Hikma Pharmaceuticals, and Samra Electric Power. Ministries and other entities, including the Royal Scientific Society and the Standards and Metrology Institution, will share their experiences.

Vice President of the Jordan Chamber of Industry, Mohammad Jitan, underscored the industrial sector’s critical contributions to the economy, comprising 25% of the GDP, providing around 250,000 jobs, and accounting for 90% of Jordan's exports.
