30/ RJ to Resume Flights to Damascus on January 31
Amman, Jan. 16 (Petra) - Royal Jordanian Airlines (RJ) announced on Thursday that it will resume flights to the Syrian capital, Damascus, starting January 31. The airline will operate four weekly flights, re-establishing direct air links between Damascus and over 45 destinations across Europe, America, the Middle East, and the Arabian Gulf. Samer Majali, Vice Chairman and CEO of RJ, expressed gratitude to the government and relevant authorities for facilitating the return of flights to Damascus International Airport. He emphasized the airline's commitment to reconnect Syria with the world, highlighting Amman's role as a vital gateway for travelers from the United States and Europe to the region. Majali also announced plans to increase the frequency to daily flights by April 2025, enhancing the convenience of the short 25-minute journey between Amman and Damascus. Alongside these flights, RJ will continue its daily bus services between Queen Alia International Airport in Amman and Syria, which have been operational for two years. Passengers can book their flights to Damascus starting today via the airline’s website or through travel agents. This move aligns with RJ’s strategic goal to position Amman as the leading gateway to the Levant region. As part of its broader expansion strategy, RJ aims to grow its fleet from 25 to 41 aircraft by 2027. The airline will introduce 20 new aircraft, including the A320neo and Embraer E2 for its narrow-body fleet, and the B787-9 for wide-body operations. The new A320Neo aircraft, set to enter service in March 2025, will feature upgraded amenities such as leather seats, modern entertainment screens, and in-flight WiFi. //Petra// AO
