28/ Agriculture ministry allocates JD5mln to propel rural development, job creation
Amman, January 16 (Petra) - Minister of Agriculture and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Agricultural Credit Corporation (ACC), Khaled Hneifat, approved allocation of JD5 million from the 2025 lending plan to the Rural Financing Program. The program targets residents of Jordan's rural areas and desert and impoverished people, aimed to propel development in those regions and create permanent job opportunities. According to a ministry statement on Thursday, the decision came within the Economic Modernization Vision and the National Plan for Sustainable Agriculture and the axis of rural development, aimed to empower women and develop ways to market agricultural products. Hneifat said the program aims to improve the projects' quality, which are originally designed to provide local employment opportunities, secure appropriate profits and open marketing outlets and services for agricultural activities. The program, he noted, focuses on unemployed women and youth in Jordan's rural areas and the desert, as the financing volume will stand at JD10,000 with a an interest rate of 2.5%. Hneifat added that the projects mainly target olive products, grain, and palm dates, and outlets to sell and market vegetable and fruit products and establish specialized bakeries. The projects target production kitchens, manufacturing of scented candle and wooden, stone and pottery antiques, as well as chocolate, ice cream production that depends on agricultural products, he pointed out. The minister noted projects also eye to manufacture, recycle and market agricultural waste and promote livestock and poultry products. Furthermore, he noted the enterprises target manufacturing production inputs used in the Kingdom's agricultural industry in its various forms. //Petra// AG
