21/ Workshop Explores Role of Municipal Revenues in Sustainable Development
Amman, January 16 (Petra) – A workshop titled "Public Finance for Human Rights and the Role of Municipal Revenues in Jordan" was held on Thursday at the Cities and Villages Development Bank, organized in partnership with the UN-Habitat Program and the Office of the United Nations Coordinator in Jordan. Osama Azzam, the bank's general manager, emphasized the institution’s commitment, alongside its partners, to delivering financial and administrative solutions that enable municipalities to address environmental and economic challenges. He underlined the need to enhance local revenues in alignment with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and Jordan's Economic Modernization Vision, aiming to improve quality of life and sustainability within local communities. Dima Abu Diab, director of the UN-Habitat Program in Jordan, highlighted the importance of equipping municipalities with improved revenue collection capabilities and sustainable financial management practices. She noted that these measures would enable municipalities to fulfill their development roles more effectively and meet local community needs, furthering the goals of comprehensive and sustainable development.
