2/ Arctic Weather Grips Jordan as Mercury Plunges
Amman, Feb 23 (Petra) -- A polar air mass continues to grip Jordan Sunday, sending temperatures plummeting 9-11 C below seasonal averages amid partial cloud cover. The Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) forecast scattered light precipitation in the morning hours, possibly turning to light flurries over highland areas, accompanied by moderate to active northwesterly winds. The JMD issued multiple weather alerts, warning of reduced horizontal visibility due to fog formation over highlands and plains, frost formation during predawn and late-night hours extending to the northern and central Jordan Valley, and black ice hazards in mountainous regions. Dusty conditions may affect visibility in the Badia region. Maximum and minimum temperatures will range from 6 C to -2 C in East Amman, 4 C to -3 C in West Amman, 3 C to -5 C in the northern highlands, and 17 C to 6 C in Aqaba. The cold snap will persist Monday with a slight chance of scattered precipitation and highland flurries. A gradual warming trend is expected Tuesday and Wednesday, though temperatures will remain below average with high-altitude clouds and moderate winds. //Petra// AA
