8/ Frigid conditions until Tuesday as polar air mass deepens
Amman, Feb 22 (Petra) -- Temperatures will further dip Saturday as a polar air mass gathers pace, bringing cloudiness and intermittent rain in northern and central Jordan and some parts in the east and southwest of the Kingdom, according to the Meteorological Department. There is still a chance of light, brief and occasional snowfall on mountain tops, it said. Desert areas can expect westerly fresh winds and dusty gusts, but rainfall across the country will diminish during night hours, said the Meteorological Department. It warned of poor visibility due to fog and surface clouds, especially over heights and dust-laden winds in desert areas, and cautioned motorists against freezing and icy roads in early morning and late night hours. On Sunday, temperatures will further plummet with cloudy to partly cloudy skies and light sleet showers on western heights in early morning hours, and winds will fresh and gusty, picking up at times. Monday's weather will be chilly and partly cloudy to cloudy with northwesterly moderate winds and still a chance for early morning drizzles and light snow showers over highlands, it said. Tuesday will see a rise in temperatures, but will still be very cold, with some high clouds over mountains and southeasterly moderate winds. The highs and lows in East Amman on Saturday will be between 6-3 celsius degrees, West Amman 4-1, northern heights 2 to minus 1, Shara highlands 1 to minus 2, Badia region 9-3, Eastern Plains 6-2, Northern Jordan Valley 14- 6, Southern Jordan Valley 17-10, Dead Sea 15-7, and the Gulf of Aqaba 18- 10. //Petra//SS
