Tafilah, February 20 (Petra) -- Minister of Health Firas Hawari inaugurated the al-Qadisiyah Comprehensive Health Center in Tafilah Governorate on Thursday, in the presence of European Union Ambassador Pierre Christophe Chatzisavas and a representative of the Spanish Ambassador to Jordan. The health center was established through a Spanish grant of 1.55 million Jordanian dinars, covering a building area of 1,680 square meters. It is expected to serve approximately 10,000 residents of al-Qadisiyah and an additional 30,000 from neighboring villages. It will provide a range of specialized services, including gynecology and obstetrics, family medicine, dentistry, maternity and childhood care, emergency and ambulance services, general medicine, an advanced laboratory, radiology, and a pharmacy. Hawari underscored that the opening of the center is part of ongoing efforts to modernize and enhance health services across hospitals and centers affiliated with the Ministry of Health, in line with its strategic plan. During the ceremony, Hawari commended the European Union’s support. He highlighted the contributions of the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development and the Health, Childhood, and Social Care Foundation under Spain’s Ministry of Health within the "Care" project, which has significantly bolstered healthcare infrastructure in Tafilah. The health minister noted that the center was built to improve healthcare services in the governorate as part of the ministry’s broader efforts to strengthen primary healthcare and enhance service efficiency. The new facility will also support the phased implementation of Jordan’s comprehensive health coverage plan, which aims to provide primary healthcare services to approximately two million beneficiaries in its initial stage. Hawari further highlighted the ministry’s initiative to replace rented and deteriorating health centers with government-owned facilities to ensure service sustainability and an improved operational environment. For his part, Chatzisavas reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to supporting Jordan’s health infrastructure and expanding access to high-quality medical services. He described the inauguration of the al-Qadisiyah Comprehensive Health Center as a vital step toward achieving universal health low-cost high-quality coverage in Jordan. Maria Cristina, the Spanish Ambassador’s representative, emphasized the significance of the project in delivering essential healthcare infrastructure to underserved areas. She stressed that this initiative would improve living conditions for residents and enhance public health services. The "Care" project, funded by the European Union Regional Trust Fund in response to the Syrian crisis with a budget of €22 million, aims to strengthen Jordan’s public health system, particularly in the management of non-communicable diseases, with a focus on the governorates of Mafraq, Tafilah, and Ajloun. //Petra// AJ
