31/ Bashir, Australian envoy talk ties, Gaza aid
Amman, Feb. 20 (Petra) - Head of the Lower House Foreign Affairs Committee, Dina Bashir, on Thursday, discussed with the Australian Ambassador to Jordan, Bernard Lynch, ways to enhance bilateral cooperation, especially in the parliamentary field. During the meeting, Bashir stressed the "strong" Jordanian-Australian relations, which are based on mutual respect and continuous cooperation, praising role of the two countries' leaderships in consolidating ties. The lawmaker also noted the importance of talks to strengthen bilateral relations and exchange views and ideas that serve common interests. Noting Jordan's position, led by His Majesty King Abdullah II, in opposing Gazans' displacement, Bashir stressed the Kingdom's humanitarian and relief role through the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO) to deliver aid to Gaza Strip. Meanwhile, the Australian envoy called on strengthening bilateral relations at the political and parliamentary levels. The diplomat added that this year witnesses celebration of the 50th anniversary of Jordanian-Australian diplomatic relations. On the Middle East front, Lynch stressed his country's support for the two-state solution and steps to enhance the region's stability and peace. Australia, he noted, contributes to supporting Jordan under international assistance programs to support Syrian refugees and providing humanitarian aid to Gaza, in cooperation with JHCO. //Petra// AG
