26/ Meeting Tackles Border Crossing Development Plans

Amman, February 20 (Petra) -- The Ministries of Public Works and Housing, Interior, and Transport have reaffirmed the government's commitment to advancing the development of border crossings to enhance Jordan’s image, meet security and social requirements, and support economic sectors.

During a meeting held at the Ministry of Public Works on Thursday, Minister of Public Works Maher Abu Saman, Minister of Interior Mazen Faraya, and Minister of Transport Wissam Tahtamouni reviewed ongoing efforts to implement comprehensive border development plans. The meeting follows previous discussions and field visits aimed at improving border infrastructure.

Officials were briefed on the latest progress in the Jaber and Karama border crossing projects, including plans to tender the construction of a 65-dunum incoming freight yard at the Jaber border center. The project is part of broader efforts to enhance freight efficiency and streamline procedures.

Attended by Secretary-General of the Ministry of Public Works Jamal Qteishat and Acting Director-General of the Land Transport Regulatory Commission Mohammad Qaryouti, the meeting underscored the importance of inter-ministerial coordination to ensure that border modernization efforts meet Jordan’s long-term needs.

The ministers emphasized the necessity of rehabilitating all border crossings to uphold Jordan’s regional standing, facilitate trade and transit operations, and improve services for visitors. The development plans align with international border infrastructure standards, incorporating security and customs considerations while accommodating future population growth in Jordan and neighboring countries.
