20/ Jordan seeks to increase exports to Palestinian market, says trade minister
Amman, Feb. 20 (Petra) - Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, Yarub Qudah, said the private sector plays a "major" role in developing the national economy, driving growth and providing job opportunities. During a dialogue seminar organized by the Palestinian-Jordanian Business Forum (PJBF), Qudah noted Jordan seeks to double its exports to the Palestinian market during the coming period, which would enhance mutual trade flow. The minister commended role of the private sector and PJBF in supporting and developing the two countries' economic cooperation. On the Syrian level, Qudah stated Jordan is the "gateway" to reconstruction in Syria and Gaza, referring to current Syrian-Jordanian discussions to facilitate passage of local products to Eastern Europe. Meanwhile, PJBF Chairman, Nazmi Atmeh, stressed the private sector's role in achieving Economic Modernization Vision, raising growth rates and attracting investments. Atmeh also indicated that the forum seeks to promote investment opportunities in Jordan and partner with the Jordanian public sector in improving the Kingdom's investment environment to boost its "competitiveness." The forum, he noted, brings under its umbrella over 250 businesspeople from various economic sectors, who own more than a 1,000 companies. //Petra// AG
