30/ Civil Status Department to start digital certificates' service
Amman, Feb 18 (Petra) -- The Civil Status and Passports Department (CSPD) will soon launch a digital service for issuing birth, death, marriage, divorce, family and individual record certificates, Director General Ghaith Al-Tayeb announced Tuesday. "This service allows the public to apply for and receive a certificate electronically in (PDF) format via "Sanad" (digital government services) application, without the need to attend a department's office in person," he said during a tour of the CSPD offices in Jabal Amman and Tlaa Al-Ali. A digital certificate has a (QR) validity code, he said, adding that the service is in line with the government's digitization strategy. Al-Tayeb said the department had started over 19 electronic services for Jordanians inside and outside the Kingdom, and that its 25 offices in Amman issued more than 177,000 documents this year, including 40,000 passports, 15,000 family books, 66 certificates of vital data, as well as 50,000 smart ID cards, among others. He spoke of the need to address observations in the "mystery shopper report", which pointed to "weaknesses" in the performance of civil status offices, urging better and smoother service to the public, particularly IDs to high school students, and pay special attention to the elderly and people with special needs. //Petra//SS
